Dutiyasīla sutta: Ethics (2nd)

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

“Mendicants, an individual with two qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. What two? Excellent conduct and excellent view. An individual with these two qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.”

The Buddha spoke this matter. On this it is said:

“If a person possesses
these two qualities—
excellent conduct
and excellent views—
when their body breaks up, that wise person
is reborn in heaven.”

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
